Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks champion Druids Say Go headlines a star-studded Arena Racing Company Laurels final at Perry Barr Stadium on Saturday night where entry is free.

The Birmingham venue hosts its final category one competition before the track’s racing operation relocates to Dunstall Park in Wolverhampton later this year, marking the end of greyhound racing at Perry Barr.

Bosses plan on going out with a bang and are offering free admission to racegoers who book in advance for finals night where the feature £12,500 race is due off at 9.20pm.

Joining Druids Say Go in the final is Gold Cup, Winter Derby and Kent Derby champion Churchfield Syd, new track record holder Aayamza Sydney, Gold Collar runner-up Wrighty plus Coppice Trophy and Armagh Daithi.

Owned by the Value Racing Club, Druids Say Go has a perfect six wins from six runs record in category one competitions at Perry Barr.

But trainer Patrick Janssens is taking nothing for granted and said Saturday’s final represents one of the toughest challenges his kennel star has faced yet.

“She’s in great shape ahead of Saturday,” said Patrick. “But, competition finals at Perry Barr are always competitive and this weekend is no different.

“(Churchfield) Syd has been a fantastic greyhound for the Rees kennel and Armagh Daithi has a lot of early pace on his day. That’s without mentioning the new track record holder and the rest – it’s a great final.

“Druids Say Go has been the most amazing bitch for the team. Only a few bitches can compete with dogs, and she’s one of them – she’s exceptional.

“We’d prefer to be drawn a touch closer to the rail but that’s the nature of open racing. I’m pleased for the Value Racing Club which has been a big supporter of the sport and our kennel since first getting into greyhound racing.

“Hopefully we can go back-to-back and land the Oaks-Laurels double.”

Although greyhound racing will continue at Perry Barr through the summer, Saturday marks the venue’s last major competition final.

Racing will be broadcast live via Gone to the Dogs with the action starting at 7pm.

Chris Black, General Manager at Perry Barr Stadium, encouraged racegoers to take advantage of the track’s one-off free admission offer.

“Greyhound racing is a fantastic, family-friendly, and cost-effective night out,” said Chris. “Saturday’s card will showcase the best of the best and we’re looking forward to crowning our 2025 Laurels champion.

“Our move to Wolverhampton represents a positive step forwards for the sport so we can showcase its present operation to a wider audience, but equally we’ll leave Perry Barr later this year with fond memories.

“For anyone yet to experience the buzz of live greyhound racing, Saturday’s card is one to book in your diary.”
